  • The UAE strongly condemned the terrorist attack, which took place outside the Houses of Parliament in London on Wednesday, 22 March 2017.
  • The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation signed a Letter of Cooperation with London's Southbank Centre on 21 March 2017.
  • HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah,  received  Simon Master Chairman’s Award, in recognition of his scientific achievements, cultural efforts and other accomplishments on 15 March 2017.
  • His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, visited the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation’s,Pavilion at the London Book Fair  2017 on 15 March.

  • A delegation from the UAE’s Federal National Council, FNC, led by Speaker Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, met with Lord Fowler, the Speaker of Britain's House of Lords, to discuss ways to promote parliamentary co-operation on 7 March 2017.

  • UAE Ambassador, Sulaiman Almazroui joined the Federal National Council  delegation during discussions with the UAE-British Business Council about the ways to enhance co-operation between the two countries in the areas of investment, trade and economy, with an emphasis on the role of parliamentary institutions on 8 March 2017.

  • Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council, acompanied by the UAE Ambassador and the diplomats, deliverd a lecture at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London on 6 March 2017.

  • Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, the Speaker of the FNC, HE Sulaiman Almazroui, UAE Ambassador, and the accompanying delegation visited Emirati patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the London Clinic on 5 March 2017.

  • The UAE embassy in the UK, headed by the Ambassador, Sulaiman Almazroui, organised a reception in honour of a Federal National Council delegation, headed by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the FNC, with the attendance of a number of ambassadors from Gulf and Arab countries on Saturday, 4 March 2017.

February
  • UAE Ambassador, Sualaiman Hamed Almazroui opened the 4th edition of the annual career fair titled UAE-UK Pioneers Forum on Saturday, 25 February 2017. The forum was attended by the UAE students and prominent speakers such as Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Education Council and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University.
  • Dr. Ahmad bin Abdulla Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education, addressed the Emirati students studying in the UK, at the gathering held by the 'Zayed's Sons on 24 February 2017.
  • The UK-UAE Task Force held its 16th meeting in Abu Dhabi, on 22 February 2017, to discuss a range of issues of common interest, including conflict resolution, security, trade, investment, humanitarian action, education, culture and consular affairs. 
  • His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the accompanying delegation, met the British Prime Minister, Teresa May  at 10 Downing Street in London on Thursday, 23 February 2017.
  • Dubai Culture announced the plan to host ‘Britain Takes Shape’, an exhibition of British contemporary design as part of the 2017 edition of Design Days Dubai, to support UK-UAE Year of Creative Collaboration.

  • HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, announced the spring session of the UAE - UK 2017 Year of Creative Collaboration, in the presence of Philip Parham, British Ambassador to the UAE, Gavin Anderson, Director of the British Council in the UAE and other strategic partner representatives at  the Ministry headquarters in Abu Dhabi on 16 February 2017. 

  • Sulaiman Hamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Ambassador to the UK, attended the reception as a guest of honour, hosted by the Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre in London.

  • Officials of the Dubai Federal Development Agency and the Department of Economic Development attended a meeting, organised in collaboration with the Diplomat Business Club, at the House of Commons which focused on promoting the UAE investment opportunities.

  • British Council launched new premises on 4 February in Abu Dhabi to cater to the growing demand for English classes among Abu Dhabi residents, especially children.

  • The Sixth Joint UAE-UK Consular Committee meeting, headed by Ahmed Saeed Elham Al Dhaheri, Assistant Under-Secretary of MoFAIC for Consular Affairs and Julia Longbottom, Director for Consular Affairs in the United Kingdom’s, UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, took place at the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, 1 February 2017.

  • Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, British Minister of State and Ambassador of the British Healthcare Sector Lord Kakkar, and Under-Secretary of the British Parliament Nicola Blackwood discussed the ways of strengthening closer relations in health sector and co-operation between the UAE and the United Kingdom on 31 January 2017.
  • Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority and Nicola Blackwood, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Public Health and Innovation at Department of Health, UK discussed discussed collaboration opportunities in the medical field with the United Kingdom at the Arab Health on 31 January 2017.
  • The UAE Ambassador, Sulaiman Hamed Almazroui visited the University of Birmingham, on 20 January 2017, where he met the Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Eastwood and a number of other senior figures. Ambassador discovered more about the University’s work and its plans for deepening its engagement with the Emirates.
  • Joint military exercises 'Sea Dagger 2017' between UAE and British forces, started in the UAE within the framework of cooperation, coordination and exchange of experiences and military information between the two sides on 15 January 2017.
  • UAE's Masdar acquired 25% stake in Hywind Scotland, a 30-megawatt floating offshore pilot wind farm in the North Sea on 14 January 2017.

  • Drydocks World attained a 5 star grading from the British Safety Council, on adopting international best practice standards in occupational health and safety on 12 January 2017.

  • British Ambassador to the UAE, HE Philip Parham paid tribute to the UAE martys on 12 January 2017.

  • The British government condemned the terrorist attack on the headquarters of the Governor of Kandahar province that led to the death of five Emiratis tasked with carrying out humanitarian, educational and developmental projects in Afghanistan.

  • UAE Ambassador, HE Sulaiman Almazroui with UAE diplomats accompanied Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Emirates Kiteboarding Committee and Sheikh Mohammed bin Surour Al Nahyan at the Sandhurst graduation ceremony held on 11 January.  Amongst the Emirati graduates were Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Saif Mohammed Al Mulla, and Khalid Saeed Shatit Al Shamsi.

  • British Chief of the Defence Staff Sir Stuart Peach visited Wahat Al Karama memorial, built to honour the UAE martyrs, on 5 January 2017.

  • Philip Hammond, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, arrived to the UAE to emphasised the importance of boosting trade and investment in the region during his visit.

  • Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development received Tracey Crouch, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Tourism and Heritage, to discuss ways to strengthen relations in the fields of culture, sport and knowledge on the 2 December 2016.
  • Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, received the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, in Manama, Bahrain on 6 December 2016.
  • British Prime Minister, Theresa May confirmed the UK's participation in Dubai’s Expo 2020 to  HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, during the meeting in   Manama, Bahrain on 7 December 2016.
  • The GCC and the UK announced the GCC-UK Strategic Partnership aimed to foster closer relations in all fields, including political, defence, security, and trade at the first GCC-UK Summit in Manama on 7 December 2016.
  • UAE's Higher Colleges of Technology entered strategic partnership with the UK’s Higher Education Academy, which was formally signed by Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, HCT Vice Chancellor, and Professor Stephanie Marshall, Chief Executive of the HEA, at a ceremony in London in the presence of the UAE Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi.

  • British Prime Minister, Theresa May confirmed UK's participation in Dubai’s Expo 2020 to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, during a meeting in the margins of the annual meeting of leaders from the GCC in Bahrain on 7 December 2016.

  • Sulaiman Hamid Salem Almazroui, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the annual ceremony hosted by Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace in honour of the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the United Kingdom on 8 December 2016.

  • Sulaiman Hamed Al Mazrouei  presented his credentials to the Queen Elizabeth II as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to the United Kingdom in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 12 October 2016.

  • The British Embassy in the UAE launched a social media campaign 'Check In' for the British nationals recently moved to the UAE.
  • Etihad Airways received the the ‘Airline of the Year’ award for the third consecutive year by UK magazine, Travel Trade Gazette at the Lyceum Theatre in London’s West End on 19 September.
  • Dr Liam Fox, the UK’s Secretary of State for International Trade visited the UAE on the 19 September 2016 and gave a talk at the Capital Club in Dubai International Financial Centre.
  • The Anti-Money Laundering and Suspicious Cases Unit (AMLSCU) of the UAE's Central Bank, in collaboration with The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom held the joint conference in Abu Dhabi on 20 September 2016.

  • Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ and Tom Winsor, the Chief Inspector of Constabulary in the UK, on behalf of of Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest on 18 September 2013 in London. 
  • Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Director-General of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, and Dominic Jermey, UK Ambassador to the UAE, met on 19 Septmeber to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and learn from the experiences of the two sides in the areas of emergency management.

  • Lord Deighton, the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury, and minister responsible for UK infrastructure, visited the UAE from 24th-26th September, where he met His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, key Government agencies and other members of the Abu Dhabi leadership.

  • UK Foreign Secretary, William Hague welcomed the UAE Foreign Minister, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the FCO on 1st May, as part of the State Visit of the UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting the Ministers signed two Memorandums of Understanding on the creation of a Dialogue of Values and National Qualifications of Frameworks.
  • UAE Foreign Minister, HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and British Foreign Minister,  William Hague, announced at the end of bilateral talks at the FCO on 1st May 2013, Dh 11.6 million (£2 million) of joint funding to help Somalia to help Somalia tackle the issue of sexual violence in conflict.

  • The UAE Minister for International Co-operation and Development, Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qassimi, held talks with Justine Greening, Secretary of State for International Development strengthening co-operation in international development efforts and in humanitarian relief on 1st May 2013.

  • UK Foreign Secretary, William Hague announced on 14th May that the UK would be backing Dubai to host the Expo 2020.
  • HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, was presented with an Honorary Degree from the City University on 14th May 2013. The award was made in recognition of Sheikh Ahmed's outstanding leadership in the development of professional sectors including aviation, finance, banking and entrepreneurship among others in the UAE.
  • The UAE-British Business Council 4th meeting, co-chaired by Nasser Ahmed Alsuwaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, Lord Marland, Chairman of UK Trade & Investment's Business Ambassadors' Group & Minister of the Department of Energy & Climate Change of the UK, and Samir Brikho, Chief Executive of AMEC and Head of the British group in the UAE-British Business Council, in presence of Council members from both sides, opened in Manchester on 20 May 2013. 
  • The UK Department of Trade & Investment and the British Business Groups in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of Business Centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on the 20 May 2013. The signing took place at the fourth meeting of the UK-UAE Business Council in Manchester on 20th May and was witnessed by Lord Marland of Odstock, the UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy and the Chairmen of the UK-UAE Business Council, Nasser Alsowaidi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and Samir Brickho CEO of AMEC.
  • The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, met with Alistair Burt, the British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, on 28 May 2013 in Abu Dhabi.
  • The UAE - UK Taskforce meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi on 28th May 2013. The UAE delegation was headed by HE Dr Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, whilst the UK delegation was led by Mr Alistair Burt MP, UK Minister for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

  • Tourism Development and Investment Company, hosted a delegation of British Members of Parliament (MPs), for a special tour on Saadiyat as part of their visit to Abu Dhabi on 3rd April 2013.
  • Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development received the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, on 15th April 2013, where they discussed economic, investment and tourism relations.
  • The UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum held the meeting at the Zabeel Palace with the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson on 15th April 2013. The meeting was attended by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy ruler of Dubai, as well as other UK-UAE dignitaries.
  • HH General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces received the visiting Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and his accompanying delegation on 15th April 2013 at the Al Bahar Palace.
  • On the 15th April, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson visited Masdar City, Abu Dhabi's sustainable, low-carbon urban development that is fully powered by renewable energy. The visit was part of the Mayor's trade mission to Abu Dhabi to forge closer ties between the two regions.
  • The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, visited Jebel Ali Port on 16th April, where he was welcomed by Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman, DP World, who explained to the Mayor how DP World's massive London Gateway port and logistics park project  was modelled on Jebel Ali.
  • The Ruler of Sharjah, HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, accompanied by HE Abdulrahman Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, First Secretary in the UAE Embassy, at the 43rd London Book Fair on 15th April 2013.
  • Sir Edward Lister, the Deputy Mayor of London, visited the UAE as part of a business delegation, during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Malek Al Malek, Managing Director, DIC and DOZ and Joanna Shields, CEO of Tech City and the UK's Business Ambassador for Digital Industries on 17 April 2013. MoU confirmed the common desire of the UK's Tech City and DIC, DOZ and DMC to promote and develop trade, inward investment and business relations between London and Dubai. 
  • The Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research showcased its high-quality publications at the London Book Fair which was held between 15&17 April 2013.

  • UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, attended a formal state banquet hosted in his honour by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at Windsor Castle on 30th April 2013. The banquet was attended by the delegation accompanying the UAE President and by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen's consort, as well as by other members of the British royal family, the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, other British ministers and senior officials.

  • HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK, attended the Global Risk Awards ceremony, where Dubai Electricity and Water Authority become the first government organisation in the region to win a prestigious Global Risk Award for Building Risk Management Capability from the UK-based Institute of Risk Management (IRM) on 28 February 2013.

  • Memorandum of Guidance' (MoG) was signed  between the Dubai's International Centre (DIFC) Courts - the leading English language commercial court in the Middle East - and the Commercial Court of England and Wales, the world's leading Commercial Court.  The signing ceremony took place in London on 23 January ahead of the ninth meeting of the UK-UAE Task Force, in the presence of the Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, and HE Dr Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. 
  • HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and the Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, received a number of retired British officers, employees and their families, who had worked with the coast force, police, departments of health and agriculture in RAK during the Trucial States. The visiting delegation was welcomed at Al Dhait Palace on the 5th February 2013.

  • Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met HM Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Ascot Horse Racing Festival on June, 20th. HH was accompanied by his wife, HRH Princess Haya bint Hussein.

  • Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received the British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne on April, 4th at the Za'beel Palace. A number of financial, economic and political issues in the context of bilateral relations between the UAE and the United Kingdom were discussed.
  • HH Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, held discussion with George Osborne, UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer, on ways of furthering existing joint cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.  Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a number of senior UAE officials, Dominic Jermey, the British Ambassador to the UAE, and members of the delegation accompanying the visiting British minister were present at the meeting at the Emirate's Palace on April 3rd.
  • Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company Masdar played host to the group of 10 British Parliamentarians led by Lord Howard of Lympne CH QC, the Chairman of the UAE All Party Parliamentary Group, which consists of 80 parliamentarians with an interest in the UAE from all parties in both Houses of the UK Parliament. The British delegation was welcomed by Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar on April 1st.

  • Ambassador to the United Kingdom Abdulrahman Ghanem Al Mutaiwee, received the Minister of State for Northern Ireland Hugo Swire and North Ireland's Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster at the UAE Embassy in London on February 11th. The two sides discussed political and economic issues, as well as, ways to boost the trade links between the UAE and Northern Ireland.
  • The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority has signed an air services Memorandum of Understanding updating the Air Services Agreement with the United Kingdom in London on February 15th.
  • UAE Environment and Water Minister Dr Rashid Ahmed bin Fahd met the British Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Hon. James Paice, who attended the Gulfood 2012 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on February 19th.
  • The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Wootton visited Abu Dhabi Men's College at the Higher Colleges of Technology on February 21st. The visit was aimed at enhancing the regional partnership between the UK companies and the Higher Colleges of Technology in the economic, financial and professional services. Accompanied by a business delegation, Lord Mayor was welcomed by Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of HCT.
  • Hamad Al Hurr Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Finance - Abu Dhabi (DoF) received the Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman David Wootton at DoF's main headquarters on February 22nd.
  • Dubai International Financial Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TheCityUK to share financial, legal and regulatory expertise, collaborating on areas of mutual interest including closer links on education, training and qualifications.   • Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World, made the announcement on August, 4th in a press conference held at London Gateway that the DP World, the world's third largest port operator, will invest another US$1 billion (Dh3.67 billion) in the London Gateway project over the next three years, which will create 36,000 jobs.

  • The UK-UAE Taskforce met for the fifth time at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London on 22 June, marking 12 months since it was established.

  • HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Chairman of the Health Authority and Chairman of Dubai Municipality paid a visit to the British Royal College of Surgeons at the invitation of the college on the 3rd May. HH was accompanied by HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Mr Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of His Highness's Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al-Maktoum Institute in Scotland.
  • Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash and the Ambassador to the UK Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee met with the members of UAE-UK All Party Parliamentary Group on May 22nd.
  • Abu Dhabi Police and the London Metropolitan Police sign a memorandum of Understanding in London on May 24th.
  • UAE Foreign Trade Minister Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi discussed trade and investment cooperation with British Minister of State of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Lord David Howell on May 31st in Dubai.

  • Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received British Defence Secretary Liam Fox and the delegation accompanying him on the 3rd of April at the Zaabeel Palace. The Deputy Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was present at the meeting where the talks were held on the distinguished relations between UAE and UK in various fields, especially in the area of military cooperation.
  • The government of the United Arab Emirates in collaboration with the government of United Kingdom hosted a joint workshop on international development assistance at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi on the 6th of April. The workshop was organised under the framework of the regular UAE-UK meetings, which are chaired by the Foreign Ministers of both countries to support the ongoing cooperation between the governments of the UAE and the UK.
  • The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister Alistair Burt paid a visit to the University of Sharjah on the 12th April. Mr Burt was accompanied by the diplomatic delegation from the UK Embassy in the UAE and welcomed by Dr Samy Mahmoud, Vice Chancellor of UoS.
  • 2nd UAE - UK Taskforce meeting takes place in Abu Dhabi on the 18th of April.
  • Khalifa University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Bristol on the 27th April to establish and create the Visual Signal Analysis and Processing Research Centre at Khalifa University's campus in Abu Dhabi.
  • HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, met Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron on 28th April at 10 Downing Street. The meeting was attended by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Foreign Minister.

  • HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, the UAE Ambassador to the UK, visited the North East of England on 24th and 25th March for talks with business and political leaders and senior university academics. His Excellency was accompanied by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Al-Maktoum, First Secretary at the UAE Embassy in London. It was the first ambassadorial visit to the region for many years.

  • Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, received the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Michael David Bear in Abu Dhabi on 5th February. The meeting in which the bilateral relations were discussed was, also, attended by the British Ambassador HE Dominique Jeremy.
  • HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, received Chris Higgins, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University in the UK on the 6th of February. The meeting explored prospects of academic cooperation between the American University of Sharjah and University of Sharjah and Durham University, Britain's third oldest higher education provider.
  • HH Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) received Sir Michael Bear, Lord Mayor of the City of London on February the 8th. The meeting discussed cooperation between DIFC and British financial institutions and ways to promote them to further drive economic growth.
  • Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan received in Abu Dhabi UK Foreign Secretary William Hague and UK Minister for International Development, Alan Duncanon on the 10th February. During their visit, the Foreign Secretary and Mr Duncan discussed with UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan and Minister of State His Excellency Dr Anwar Gargash the strong bilateral relations between the UK and UAE, building on last year’s State Visit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the signing of the ‘2010 Abu Dhabi Declaration’ which reaffirmed the historical friendship between the two countries and committed to even closer cooperation on trade and investment, defence, foreign policy, education and culture.
  • HH Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK, visited Edinburgh on 23rd and 24th February for talks with political and business leaders, and senior university academics hosted by Professor Stephen Hillier, Vice Principal International. It was the first ambassadorial visit to Scotland in 39 years. The UAE envoy, accompanied by Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum Al-Maktoum, First Secretary at the UAE Embassy in London and Dr Sulaiman Al Jassim, President of Zayed University, was welcomed at the Scottish Parliament by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Minister for Culture and External Affairs and subsequently by Councillor Jenny Dawe, Leader of Edinburgh City Council at the Edinburgh City Chambers.

  • The UK-UAE Taskforce meet for the third time at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London on 31 January. The delegations, led by Alistair Burt MP, UK Minister for the Middle East and South Asia, and His Excellency Dr Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, discussed a range of issues, including trade and investment; consular relations; international development; and foreign policy.

  • Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, receives at the Ruler's Court, British Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox to reviewed bilateral relations between the UAE and Britain and discussed ways to expand the horizons of joint cooperation, particularly in the sectors of tourism, economy, culture and military cooperation. The meeting was attended by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director General of the Court of Dubai Ruler and a number of senior officials. Guy Warrington, British Consul General in Dubai and the delegation accompanying the Defence Secretary also attended the meeting.
  • HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK, visits Belfast on 7 December for talks with political and business leaders. The Ambassador was welcomed by the Northern Ireland's First Minister, Rt Hon Peter Robinson MLA, and deputy First Minister, Mr Martin McGuinness MP MLA, as well as by Mr Alban Maguinness MLA, and other members of the Northern Ireland Assembly's Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee. His Excellency also paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly Mr David McClarty MLA and called on Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI's Director of Trade, and Claire Gadd, Regional Manager for the Gulf States to discuss strengthening trading relationships.
  • Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the Vice President of Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, signed the agreement with The University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Richard Barnett, resulting in the formation of a joint UAE/Ulster Motor Sport Research Centre. The historic agreement was signed on the 7 December 2010 in the presence of the UAE Ambassador to the UK, HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee.
  • The United Arab Emirates Embassy in London welcomes hundreds of guests to a reception, in celebration of the UAE 39th National Day, hosted by HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, the UAE ambassador to the UK. The UK Government was represented by Lord Sassoon, Commercial Secretary in Her Majesty’s Treasury, whilst other distinguished guests included Education Minister Lord Hill of Oareford CBE, Liberal Democrat and Vice-Chairman Lord Clement Jones, Labour's Lord Soley, and Northern Ireland's Lord Kilclooney.

  • Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research receives in his palace Tony Blair, Chairman of The Tony Blair Faith Foundation and representatives of companies and foundations which hold cooperation ties and partnerships with The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT). Present was Sheikh Mohammed bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and a number of officials who attended signing of the memorandum of Understanding between Tony Blair Faith Foundation and HCT on the 29th November 2010.
  • At the invitation of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh arrive in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday 24 November to undertake their second State Visit to the UAE - the first having taken place in 1979. HH the Duke of York and Foreign Secretary, William Hague MP accompany Her Majesty on this visit.
  • Accompanied by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh made a tour of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where they played the respects at the tomb of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
